			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The schedule and first-round pairings are complete for the NJCAA Region 16 Baseball Tournament scheduled to be held May 9-13, 2012 at Wendell Redden Stadium at the Joplin Athletic Complex.</p>
<p>The NJCAA Region 16 Tournament, consisting of eight teams from Missouri, will compete for the opportunity to advance and host the NJCAA South Central District against the NJCAA Region 2 Champion with the District Champion advancing to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.</p>
<p>The tournament host is Crowder College in cooperation with the Joplin Sports Authority.</p>
<p>Wednesday’s opening round pairings are:</p>
<p>10 a.m. – No. 4 Mineral Area (28-22) vs. No. 5 Three Rivers (25-23-1).</p>
<p>1 p.m. – No. 3 Maple Woods (20-30) vs. No. 6 Meramec-St. Louis CC (27-26).</p>
<p>4 p.m. – No. 1 Jefferson College (44-9) vs. No. 8 North Central (8-39-1).</p>
<p>7 p.m. – No. 2 Crowder (41-15) vs. No. 7 St. Charles (15-34).</p>
<p>Thursday and Friday’s schedule will include games at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.</p>
<p>Saturday, the losers’ bracket final will be played at 1 p.m. followed by the Region 16 Championship game at 4 p.m. Should the losers’ bracket finalist defeat the winners’ bracket finalist in the title game, a second championship game will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. Please see the attached bracket for the complete schedule.</p>
<p>In 2010, the Region 16 Championship was held at Wendell Redden Stadium in Joplin with Crowder College earning the championship, taking the district title and advancing to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., finishing fifth with a 1-2 record.</p>
<p>The defending Region 16 Champion, Jefferson College, earned the district title in 2011 and advance to the NJCAA World Series posting a 2-2 record.</p>
<p>Tournament results will be posted immediately upon the completion of each game at <a title="This external link will open in a new window" href="http://www.joplinsports.org/" target="_blank">www.joplinsports.org</a> and on the Joplin Sports Authority Facebook page.</p>

<p>This year’s class includes three individuals and one team:</p>
<p>■ Bill Street – Joplin area stock car driver who earned late model points championships at seven different tracks during his career and a member of the Ozarks Area Racers Association Hall of Fame.</p>
<p>■ Jeff Hafer – A 1996 graduate from Joplin High School who earned all-state honors as a senior in basketball. He continued his career under Norm Stewart at the University of Missouri earning a spot on the Big 12 Freshman Team in 1997.</p>
<p>■ Tongula (Givens) Steddum – A 14-time All-American at Missouri Southern in track and field, Steddum is a member of the Missouri Southern Hall of Fame and the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She still holds school records in the indoor and outdoor triple jump and long jump and was a two-time qualifier for the United States Olympic Trials.</p>
<p>■ The 1972 Missouri Southern College NAIA Division II Football National Champion team – Coached by Jim Frazier, Missouri Southern was the first four-year school in Missouri to earn a football national championship defeating Northwestern, Iowa 21-14. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1972 National Championship team.</p>
<p>The induction ceremony banquet will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11 at Granny Shaffer’s on Range Line Road. Reservations for the banquet may be made by contacting the Joplin Sports Authority at (417) 625-1006. Tickets are available and cost $15 each.</p>
<p>On May 12, the Joplin Sports Authority Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. at Schifferdecker Golf Course.</p>
<p>The Joplin Area Sports Hall of Fame is located inside the Joplin Museum Complex at 7th and Schifferdecker inside Schifferdecker Park. The Joplin Area Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2001 to honor local individuals and teams for their contributions to athletics.</span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>JOPLIN, Mo. – A new series of youth baseball tournaments will make its debut this weekend at the new Joplin Athletic Complex.</p>
<p>The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), KC Sports, Joplin Parks and Recreation and the Joplin Sports Authority will collaborate to host 12 youth baseball and softball tournaments starting this Saturday and Sunday with the Joplin Season Opener at the Gene Bassman Softball Complex inside the Joplin Athletic Complex.</p>
<p>Tournaments will continue each weekend through April, May and June and will be USSSA sanctioned tournaments for boys baseball and girls fast pitch softball ages eight and under through 14 and under.</p>
<p>The Joplin Season Opener this weekend will feature 24 teams from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas on the Gene Bassman Complex, a softball/baseball four-plex with 300-foot fences, field mix infield surface, Bermuda grass outfields complete with a full-service concession and restroom facility located in the center of the four fields.</p>
<p>“KC Sports-USSSA are very excited about our partnership with the City of Joplin and the Joplin Sports Authority,” said Rick Fortuna, Executive Vice-President of USSSA Baseball Operations and Director of KC Sports. “We are excited to be a part of growing the new Joplin Athletic Complex, the opportunity to bring teams to Joplin over the next few months and the economic impact they will have in the community. This signifies the first step of what we anticipate becoming a long-term partnership in Joplin.”</p>
<p>Teams participating this weekend include ages 10 and under, 12 and under, 13 and under and 14 and under from Fayetteville, Ark., Lee’s Summit, Mo., Skiatook, Okla., and Lebanon, Mo. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>JOPLIN, Missouri – The seedings are set and the bracket finalized for the 13<sup>th</sup> annual Joplin Kaminsky Classic basketball tournament sponsored by Freeman Sports Medicine and the Joplin Sports Authority scheduled for Jan. 5-7, 2012 at Missouri Southern’s Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium.</p>
<p>The tournament field will feature eight teams from three states, including ranked teams from Okla. and Mo., and a bevy of talented athletes highlighted by NCAA Division I and Division II recruits.</p>
<p>The tournament is scheduled to start Thursday at 4 p.m. with six-time Kaminsky champion Webster Groves vs. Francis Howell. The 5:30 contest will feature defending champion Jefferson City vs. Joplin, the 2011 tournament runner-up. The 7 p.m. game will pit top-seeded and tournament newcomer Wichita Word of Life against St. Louis Sumner. The 8:30 tilt matches Tulsa Memorial vs. William Chrisman.</p>
<p>Friday’s schedule includes consolation semifinals at 4 and 5:30 p.m. and winners’ bracket semifinals at 7 and 8:30 p.m.</p>
<p>Saturday’s finals start at 11 a.m. with the seventh place game, the fifth place game at 12:30 p.m., the third place game at 2 and the championship scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.</p>
<p>The all-tournament team will be announced following the conclusion of the tournament prior to the championship trophy presentation.</p>
<p>Webster Groves enters the tournament as the No. 2 ranked team in Missouri Class 5 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association while Tulsa Memorial enters as the No. 10 team in Oklahoma Class 5A by the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association.</p>
