Loma Linda, Mo. - Central Missouri won its first ever MIAA title at the 2023 Women's Golf Championship at the Eagle Creek Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jennies and Head Coach Chris Port clinched their first MIAA championship in program history at the Association's 2022-23 postseason tournament. Central Missouri led the championship's first two rounds to gain a 20-stroke lead into the final round on day three. The Jennies carded a 54-hole score of 72-over-par, 936 (310-305-321). Central Missouri also led all teams with 36 birdies – 14 more than any other team in the tournament.
Rogers State was the MIAA runner-up with a three-round team score of 75-over-par, 939 (314-321-304). The Hillcats shot a tournament-low 304 in the final round to close the Jennies' lead by 17 strokes. Rogers State also led the field with 140 pars and was the only team to record two eagles.
Northeastern State finished third with a 54-hole team total of 102-over par, 959 (323-320-316).
2023 MIAA Individual Champion
Paige Hoffman
Northwest Missouri's Paige Hoffmann was crowned the 2023 individual MIAA champion. Hoffmann, a sophomore from West Des Moines, Iowa, led the field of 54 with a three-round score of 8-over-par, 224. She opened the tournament with a 73 (+1) in round one, followed by a 74 (+2) in round two and a 77 (+5) in the final round. She also tied with Northeastern State's Nina Lee for a tournament-high 35 pars. Hoffmann is Northwest's second individual champion in program history and first since 2012.
Central Missouri's Nicole Rallo was the individual runner-up with a three-round score of 9-over-par, 225. After shooting a 5-over-par, 77 in round one, the sophomore from Wentzville, Mo., led the Jennies in the championship's final rounds shooting a 73 (+1) in round one and a 75 (+3) in round three. Rallo also led all golfers with 11 birdies on the course.
Morgan Brasser, the MIAA Golfer of the Year, placed third with a total score of 10-over-par, 226 (80-74-72). Brasser's 72 in the final round was the only even par round of the championship.
With the victory, Central Missouri earns the Association's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Other MIAA teams will anticipate receiving at-large bids to join the Jennies in the 2023 Central Region Championship. The official tournament field will be announced on Monday, May 1, on
NCAA.com.
The regional championship will be played May 8-10 at the Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
