Employed by the Jones Truck Lines as a dock foreman and driver, Jack competed at more than 30 tracks in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Iowa. In 19 years of competition at the Greentop and Ozark Speedway tracks in Joplin, Jack Belk finished out of the top 10 in drivers points only once (1953). He had six first place finishes (1951, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1966, 1967) and was second five times (’55, ’56, ’62, ’64, and ’65). He also finished third twice, fourth twice, sixth twice and tenth once. He was also voted most popular driver at the Ozark Speedway by the fans six straight times (1962 through 1967). Jack faced some of the toughest competition in open cockpit modified stock car racing. Some of his challengers included Larry Phillips of Springfield, winningest driver of late model stock cars in the country; Dean Roper, USAC late model champion three straight years in the early 1970’s; USAC Sprint Car Champion and Kenny Weld, 7-time Knoxville National champion. Jack won seven season championship races at the Ozark Speedway in ’55, ’60, ’61, ’63, ’65, ’66, and ’67. He shared the title in 1966 with Dean Roper.
